Getting There

This walk was a CBC walk led by Rob and Jenny H.  8 of us walked.  We met at 2pm in Kambah and drove via Point Hut Crossing, turning left at the T-intersection.  A further 1.5km south along the Tidbinbilla Road towards Tharwa, we parked on the left.

Walk

Advertised as a Sunday afternoon ramble, this was a great little heart starter.  Just 3 hours door-to-door and fitted in before a severe storm front passed over.

We left the cars and walked 50m south along the road and crossed to the hill side.  A well strung fence provided our first obstacle, the burned out strainer post replaced by a steel post and support.  So we used the team approach to cross.

It was pretty obvious what we next had to do - just go up!  Open pasture land till we reached a band of scrub, but the steep climb soon began to bite on the breathing.  Cleared land with marvellous granite rocks at the top.  Just 1.2km from fence line to trig point, climbing 300m.  That's a reasonable gradient.

Excellent views opened up as we climbed, the Spring green pasture and storm filled Murrumbidgee combining to make a pretty picture.  From the top, 360 degree views to Canberra, Tuggeranong and Gordon to the NE and E; the Tinderrys in the SE; sweeping hills from Mt Tennent, Booroomba Rocks and Mt Lincoln in the S and SW; Tidbinbilla Ridge in the W.

After a break and with another storm coming in over the Tidbinbilla Ridge, we headed via the unique rocks near the summit to the downhill run.  We nearly beat the rain back.

Time:  2.30am - 4.25pm, with 30 minutes of stops.
